The difference between silicon, Neutral, MS and polyurethane sealants

Silicon sealants: –

  • Silicon sealants: Silicon sealants are often made of acetic acid and other polymers. may be applied quickly to both internal and exterior surfaces using a sealant gun or a Patti blade.
  • Glass, anodized aluminum, ceramic and porcelain tiles, among other non-porous substrates, are the principal targets of silicon-based sealants.
  • In addition, silicon sealants have a lot of advantages, including strong bonding, effective shrinkage compensation, and good temperature resistance.
DEMERITS OF SILICON SEALANTS
  • However, due to the presence of acetic acid, it produces a potent vinegar-like odor as it is being preserved.
  • Paint cannot be used on silicon sealants.
  • Because silicon sealants contain acetic acids, they cannot be used in tanks holding potable water.
  • They are not appropriate for substrates with high traffic and porous kinds, such as concrete, bricks, etc.
  • Additionally, it reacts with porous varieties of natural stone, reacts at the margins, and alters the color of the stones.

Neutral Silicon sealants

  • Neutral silicone sealants, as their name suggests, do not engage in any chemical reactions that end up resulting in dark edges in natural stone, allowing us to employ neutral silicon on both porous and non-porous substrates. It also does not create any type of Bad odor smell.
  • Additionally, this item is appropriate for areas with water tanks and potable water tanks.
Demerits of Neutral silicon sealants
  • Neutral silicon sealants are also not paintable
  • They are also not designed for heavy foot traffic and vehicles

PU Based sealants: –

  • Because they have strong expansion and contraction, elongation, and shore hardness characteristics, polyurethane-based sealants are often designed for heavy vehicle and industrial-grade types of locations.
  • Even sealants with polyurethane bases are quite paintable.
  • The PU sealants have extremely elevated levels of heat, slump, and mechanical stability.
  • PU is the ideal alternative for expansion and distribution joints.
Demerits of PU SEALANTS
  • Considering that it contains chemicals like isocyanates and solvents. thus, can lead to asthma-like issues.
  • This product cannot be used near water storage tanks or even on wet/damp surfaces.
  • Its lack of environmental friendliness and poor substrate adherence
  • less weather-resistant property.

MS Sealants:-

  • Modified Silane Polyether Sealant is the full name of the MS sealant. Since it is free of formaldehyde, isocyanates, and solvents and has outstanding environmental protection qualities like affinity for the environment and the human body,
  • It is also well-suited for construction and has excellent adhesion, durability, and weather ability, especially when it comes to being paintable and non-polluting.
  • MS Based sealants we can also used on the top of the Damp surfaces
  • Suitable for the Heavy foot traffic and vehicular areas.
  • Does not create breathability problems because it is free from silicon and isocynates.
  • For all types of heavy porous natural stone we need to consult with the manufactures.
